Children & Seniors' Day
The first full day of festival activities begins with the Children's and Seniors' Day.  Through several months of preparation, and coordination with the Memphis County School Board, the day is devoted to the youth.  Teachers begin decorating their class rooms in early January and building curriculum, when applicable, around the featured country.  Contests are held to identify art designs, projects, and performances for presentation at the festival.

The day starts with a parade consisting of bands from the Memphis Shelby County School System, throughout the day, youth performers fill the stage with poetry, song and dance.  Arrangements are made with participating schools to transport bus loads of students to the event.  They tour the festival activities and learn more about the culture, political and economical details of the country being featured.  This year's venue will be entitled, "Discovering Sierra Leone.  A timeline of the countries major events will be presented through displays, live performances, video recordings and audio tapes.
