Africa In April Festival Inc. - Mission Statement
The Africa In April Cultural Awareness Festival was created in 1985 as an annual springtime cultural event. Designed to promote the Memphis/Mid-South and Tri-State region, the Festival's mission is to draw national and international attention to Memphis and the Mid-South as a rising cultural tourism destination. By presenting internationally acclaimed artists and entertainers from around the world for the enjoyment of visitors, residents and students, the Festival proudly shares the enriching experience, the unifying power and the joy that cultural exchange brings to the quality of life for everyone.

Africa In April showcases the Mid-South's artistic distinctiveness, and recreational attractions as well as its wealth of historic, cultural and educational institutions, which is of direct benefit to the cultural development of the Mid-South as well as to building year-round interest in tourism and international business and economic development.  Each year, a new artwork is commissioned to commemorate the celebration of the country being featured.
